Firecrest by wildartguy Firecrest by wildartguy
One of the many sketches I do before painting a bird, only this time I indulged myself and kept going simply because I was so taken by these stunning little birds. Lots of fun to do.

Aah yes, they're amazing little things! I love that single splash of color in this!

Thanks Chikrata, actually the idea has crossed my mind, my publisher has talked about something like it in app form, but the details have eluded us thus far. Good to know someone likes the idea!

Interesting style - it's an artform it itself. It's be really interesting to make a book out of little sketch pieces like this. Ever thought of it?

Thanks Misted! Very kind. The idea of focussing attention on a central point is one I like a lot, Ray Harris Ching is the master of those kind of portraits. Theres also something wonderfully immediate about an unfinished picture where part of it has been finished to the nth degree. Singer Sargent's 'Madame X' is a wonderful example.

This is beautiful work! I love how you've finished certain parts and gradually left the rest unfinished. It's a very stunning, yet simple piece. The eye is especially lovely. :)
